Fast Food Addiction

The Fast Food industry is one of the most dominating industries in the world, generating on average$100 billion in sales every year according to the Organic Consumers Association. How does an industry selling fatting foods and sugary drinks make so much money? Morgan Spurlock points out that in 2001 McDonalds spent “$1.4 billion in advertising worldwide”. (Spurlock)   Anybody can see that the products distributed by these industries are not good for you but yet we keep going back and eating it.   What one may see as a heart attack on a bun may be a quick to go meal to someone else. But that quick meal turns into more and more meals. Is this a mere coincidence or is there a deeper connection?  
          Studies have shown that ingredients in fast foods and sugary drinks creates the same reaction in the brain that heroin does (Braley).   So you can basically call fast food a cheap deep fried drug.   The only foods at McDonalds that do not contain sugar are the “French fries, chicken mcnuggets, hash browns, sausage, diet coke, coffee and iced tea. Everything else, even the salads contains sugar.”(Spurlock) But there is something that is even worse than sugar that is in McDonalds’ food. It is called high fructose corn syrup.
        HFCS is the main reason that people keep coming back to McDonalds in the first place. They load their food up with this stuff. It can be found in virtually every McDonalds’ item, from the buns to the sodas. (Word Press) HFCS basically screws with the way your body works. Your body processes it differently then it does sugar. The liver goes out of whack and will throw more fat into your bloodstream. That then makes your body store more fat which will make your body want it more. It can become a never ending cycle which can lead to liver failure and then eventually death. McDonalds knows this but they still keep using this ingredient. It is a cheap product and it extends the shelf life of an item so at the end of the day all they can obtain...
