Definition: An easy or painless death or the intentional ending of the life of a person suffering from an incurable or painful disease at his or her request. Euthanasia can be accomplished either through an oral, intravenous, or intramuscular administration of drugs. In individuals who are incapable of swallowing lethal doses of medication, an intravenous route is preferred. One way to distinguish them is to look at the last act – the act without which death would not occur.
