Ethnic Groups And Discrimination

Mexicans have been a part of the United States of America since before it had all 50 states. Mexicans did not have to cross the border like everyone thinks. Surprising the border crossed them. After the Annexation of Texas U.S. President James K. Polk declared war on Mexico. After defeating Mexico the United States had purchased part of Mexico’s land making any Mexicans who have lived there legal citizens of America.

Mexicans and their culture have been a part of the United States of America before any other race or ethnicities decided to migrate here. The year of 1610 was the year that Mexicans discovered the city of Santa Fe which is located in New Mexico. Before New México or any of these other states we know today as Texas, California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Utah became part of the United States they were land that had belonged to the Spaniards. In 1821 just over 300 years of being governed by the Spaniards, Mexico had fought for their independence and won.
On March 1st, 1845 U.S. President James K. Polk signed a resolution of the Annexation of Texas. Years after winning their land and independence from Spain, Mexico had to worry about President James K. Polk invading their land. About a year after the Annexation of Texas on May 13th 1846, President Polk had declared war on Mexico. The war did not end till 1848 when the United States had dominated Mexico. After the war both of the countries had signed a treaty known as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was the signing and payment of $15 million dollars given to Mexico for the land that we all know today as California, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Oregon. The United States of America would also own parts of Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming, and Montana.
