Ethical System of Inquiry
A system of inquiry or code of conduct serves as a comprehensive document that details the guidelines that are considered acceptable for an employee of the company. The employees who adhere to the policy contribute to the organization's overall success; the tool is used to evaluate decision-making, problem solving, and behavior in a business setting. All the employees within the company is responsible for acknowledging receipt and comprehension of the company's code of ethics via electronic signature and the document is available on the company's website for reference throughout the year. Employees have multiple resources to assist with the decision-making process, the local human resources manager, email addresses, and contact numbers for the compliance offices and a toll free compliance hotline.
Having a system of values, beliefs, and integrity written out in a document is vital to show maturity, acceptable behavior and responsibilities, high standards of practice, also a vehicle to demonstrate a business’s identity. There are codes of ethics in both personal and business perspectives. The development of a code of ethics forces both individuals and businesses to work towards the same mission. Keeping the focus afresh therefore benefiting from doing what is right.
In developing a system of inquiry, I chose to use the ethics code for The Marmon Group. The Marmon Group is an international association of more than 125 manufacturing and service businesses that operate independently within diverse business sectors. Through service agreements with each member company, The Marmon Group provides consulting and administrative services, including a Code of Business Conduct to support the strong culture of corporate ethics and citizenship (Marmon, 2008).
