Introduction
On Oct. 5, 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) carried out the new air-quality laws. It requested governments to improve air quality so that it protected people’s health. The report of WHO showed that air pollution caused two million deaths each year. Air pollution has become one of the most serious environmental problems throughout the world.
Causes of air pollution
There are two major causes of air pollution. One of the major causes is natural pollution. Natural pollution is windblown dust, fog and so on. Dust storms in desert areas and smoke from forest and grass. The other major cause is man-made pollution. Man-made pollution is the most serious form. Most of man-made pollution is caused by industries, cars, trucks, planes and so on. The biggest causes are the fossil fuel-burning power and cars. America must be responsible for about 90% of all air pollution. Some cities, such as Mexico City and Sao Paulo, are exposed to air pollution because of heavy industrial chemicals. Motor vehicles produce high levels of carbon monoxides (CO), and the main sources are hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Types of air pollution
There are many types of air pollution. Firstly, motor vehicle exhausts is a kind of air pollution. Secondly, industrial processes also produce air pollution. Thirdly, fertilizers are another kind of air pollution. Moreover, solid waste is a kind of air pollution. Furthermore, agriculture produces air pollution, too. Next, forest fires also produce air pollution. Finally, Extraction of metals is another kind of air pollution.
Effects of air pollution
Air pollution has an influence on people. Air pollution has both acute and chronic effects on human health.
