Beauty is a quality or feature that is most effective, gratifying, or telling for women. The definition of beauty has changed over the past century. The effect it has on women today is remarkable. Today, women feel the need to present themselves as beautiful in order to get the respect they deserve. Women show this kind of behavior almost unconsciously, almost like it has been instilled in their minds at birth. Something must be done if women want to change this behaviour, whether it is by actually changing the current definition of beauty, or by changing the behavioural patterns instilled in women. There have been numerous studies done regarding beauty such as The Biology of Beauty and The American Image of Beauty. In addition, literature has proven that beauty is emphasized in today's society. Literature pieces such as The woman I am in my dreams by, Glory in the Flower by William Inge, A Girl's Story by David Arnason collectively exemplify the definition of beauty, to be further discussed subsequently. Many articles are written by modern psychologists and psychoanalysts that stress the importance of beauty in women. The Biology of Beauty suggests this importance and substantiates this data with many facts and figures as well as surveys. The article states many theories and hypotheses and also tries to explain why beauty plays such an important role in sexuality and power. The psychologist's believe that men are more attracted to women with a slender figure, reasonably tall and have blond hair. The narrative by David Arnason, called A Girl's Story confirms this belief, "…make you fairly tall, about five-foot eight…give you blond hair because long blond hair is sexy and virtuous". This work of literature justifies the study done by the psychologists because the narrative shows that in today's society having blond hair and being reasonably tall as woman makes you more beautiful.
