Dancing Days

Of all the nerve-racking times dancers go through, one of them would have to be ballet competitions. You never know who you are up against, from the strongest to the weakest dancer. You will not know who the adjudicator will pick! Let me show you how it went with me.

It was Friday when my ballet teacher, June Lee, picked me to participate in ballet competitions. It was also the eighth day at my new ballet school. She gave me the number of the private tutor who choreographs dances for competitions. Her name is Claire. June then gave me a folder full of entries to different competitions like Phoenix, Ballet Teachers Workshop, Ballarat South Street and many more. After that June drove me to Claire's studio for a trial. The room was as cold as being in a refrigerator during winter. I had to take of all my extra clothing's leaving me wearing a spaghetti strap leotard, stockings and a pair of ballet shoes. As my leotard was a low back (meaning, half my back was bare) I felt even colder. Claire taught me some warm exercises on the floor. She then told me to repeat what she was doing. I sat on the floor feeling the coldness through my bum! Without realizing, I flopped my back on the floor and immediately jumped up and screamed my lungs out. I started blushing when I saw Claire laughing her head off at me. After all the exercises, she taught me the beginning of my dance. When the lesson was over, mum picked me up and we went home. Comments about that day were extremely good except for the fact that I was screaming about on the floor. It took me three days to learn the whole dance. Claire commented that I was a fast learner as it normally takes a week or more to learn a dance.
