Dance Therapy: Bellydance Your Way To Peace!

Dance Therapy and Belly Dance!

Aristotle said "happiness" is grace in dance!

Dance therapy , which is also commonly known as Dance Movement Therapy, has to do with the way the therapeutic use of movement and dance, are used to improve emotional, cognitive, social, behavioral and physical conditions. There are many articles that have been written in the American Journal of Dance Therapy on healing and transforming through dance. I recently did a show on blogtalkradio interviewing an internetional bellydancer and we spoke of the therapeutic techniques that can be applied when teaching a dance class that actually have been used by many Psychologists in group therapy settings just without the dance part. Actually the bellydancer that I interviewed is a yoga instructor and polarity therapist. Dance therapy actually started in the US by a women who taught it in a hospital setting in the 1800's and people saw that it helped the patients a great deal. I will discuss the therapeutic techniques very soon in detail. This is just an introduction. The basis of Dance therapy is formulated with the concept that the mind and body are connected or lets say, interrelated. Just by the Law of dependence we can see this concept makes sense, nothing is what it is in isolation. In REBT, Psychologists are taught that our thoughts controll our emotions. This works very well in talk therapy. But it works the other way around too change your behavior and your thoughts can then change. For example: as a behaviorist studies show and this stuff is self intuitive that if you force people to smile ten times a day in front of a mirror, they automatically start to feel happier. See my article on Unity in facebook for more info.
