Curriculum Review
Abstract
In school districts where a coherent curriculum implementation model has been implemented, achievement of all students has increased. The curriculum implementation model that is used throughout the Kindergarten through twelfth grade schools in the School District of Lee County is based on the constructivist philosophy of education. This philosophy allows for change in the values of schools, and focuses on student problem solving based on student interests and abilities. This curriculum review will focus on one unit from the current 3rd grade curriculum for The Baltimore City School System; including curriculum evaluation, recommendation plan, and a revised curriculum.
Introduction
The implementation of curriculum in The School District of Lee County is dependant upon the philosophical preferences and overall curriculum approaches with in the school district. The organizational development model seeks to improve the problem solving process within the district with an emphasis on collaboration, teamwork, and organizational cultures. Throughout the model, administrators and the curriculum specialist serve as facilitators of the curriculum change. The Baltimore City School System, in utilizing the organizational development approach, view the curriculum as a process of change, and seek to use action research to implement best practices across the disciplines.
It is no longer an option for schools to let students fall through the cracks, as we are held accountable for each student learning successes. The Baltimore City School System recognizes that students learn because of their teachers and the learning opportunities provided to them.
