Introduction
Managers use power and politics to coordinate and support the work of organizational members and to meet organizational objectives. Power and politics are usually adopted when there is a conflict over the best structure to adopt, best use of available resources, and the like. This conflict is further aggravated when various types of personalities are teamed in an organization
The owner and chairman of the board Jason Poole started his company, Good Sport 15 years ago. Good sport manufactures fitness equipment such as Bikes, treadmills, and steppers for fitness clubs, hotels, personal homes, and more recently hospitals. The company is located in Coral Springs, Florida and is looking to expand to surrounding states. Jason an ex NBA basketball player used his popularity status and business sense to create and promote trendy work out equipment.
The company is able to expand because of their innovative and productive executive members, Marvin Wallace, Tamara Watkins and Eartha Simpson. Each person has been with the company for several years. These four individuals set the stage for the organizational culture that exists here at Good Sport. Management is responsible for initiating new ideas and processes. Their other duty is influencing employees to accept the changes that come with new ideas. Organizational culture is basically the pattern of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs governing the way employees within an organization think about and act on problems and opportunities with in a company structure (McShane,S. & Von Gllnow, M. 2005). Overall the organizational culture of Good Sport is an integrative culture. The objective in an integrative culture is to obtain a consensus regarding the values and basic assumptions of the organization and to produce consistent actions. This integration brings unity, predictability, and clarity to work experiences. (Law, E. J. 2006)
