College Importance

January 25, 2009

College is much more than simply a higher education than required; it is a way to secure a job in ones chosen field. In the present day, attending college is practically expected of high school seniors. A college degree significantly increases ones chance of “doing well” in their adult life and one with a college education can expect to earn considerably more money than one without. To some, college may be the way to an improved lifestyle; to others it may simply be a small step in the pursuit of their dreams. To everybody, college is a great way to squander tens of thousands of dollars. Is college worth the years of work it will take to pay off those student loans? The answer is yes. My reason for spending the extra dollars and attending yet another four years of school is simple- to secure a future for myself. Not only is college level schooling leaving more than a probable chance to get a good job, it is also far more likely that my occupation will be a desired one. Sure, there are jobs out there that don’t require a college education and to be quite honest some of them may not pay all that bad, but those jobs are vanishing quicker than the earth’s rainforests. By getting a solid four year college education under my belt, I am reserving a place for myself in the future job market. Another reason that I am choosing to go to college is that it will help me give back to society. I plan to major in nursing, which revolves around helping other people. This career would not be possible without a college education. With a college education, I am hoping that maintaining a higher standard of living will be possible, enough to maybe one day raise a family. I’m currently in my first year of college and I can tell you first hand that it’s not all that easy. Attending college requires perseverance and sacrifices, but in the end the college graduate will come out on top and that’s why I decided to go to college.
