Introduction
The merger of InterClean and EnviroTech has resulted in significant changes to the company. Most important is the new strategic direction for InterClean: “The company will no longer sell only cleaning products, but will also provide full-service cleaning solutions for organizations in the health care industry” (University of Phoenix, 2009a, p. 10). As a result of both the merger and the new strategic direction of the company, new members were selected for our midlevel sales team and a development plan was created to ensure the success of the team. At the conclusion of this process, a report was written as a collaborative effort between Human Resources and Midlevel Sales. The purpose of this report is fourfold:
• Explain the information that resulted from a job analysis conducted for new salesperson positions.
• Describe the workforce planning system on sales development created for our midlevel sales team.
• Identify and evaluate the staff selection method used for our team.
• Identify the employees chosen for our team and explain the reasons for their selection.
However, before the process was started, the overall context was established by summarizing InterClean’s new business strategy. Keeping the business strategy at the forefront of the process was crucial in determining the purpose and associated functions for the new midlevel sales teams. The following questions helped ensure that the workforce planning and job analysis efforts were in sync with InterClean’s long-term objectives: “What are the components of the organization, what should they do, and how should they relate to one another to achieve the objectives and fulfill the mission of [InterClean]” (Cascio, 2006, p. 173)?
