Cherith ; A Cutting Place

The purpose of 1st & 2nd Kings is didactic teachings.   This is the imparting of great moral lessons backed up by well known illustrations from nation’s history and from the lives of its heroes and leaders.
1st Kings 17:3 God is sending Elijah eastward to hide thyself by the brook called Cherith that is before Jordan.
The brook Cherith is a testing place it was a cutting place, both physically and spiritually.   It is a place that God takes his servants so that they can become more like Him.
1st Kings 17:3   and hide thyself by the brook Cherith.   This is a place of self denial , a place of social isolation.
In order for God to be able to use us in His way, He first has to do some cutting out of stuff in our lives. He has to prepare us , transform us for a greater work.   In order to elevate areas of spiritual service, God has to cut away the hindering of the flesh.
Galatians 5:17   For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; these are contrary one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. In other words, there is battle that is going on between us and Jesus.
1st Kings 17:4   And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook ; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.  
1st Kings 17:6   And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening : and he drank of the brook.
The ravens brought scraps of meat and stale bread in the morning and then again in the evening.   (road kill and he drank from the brook.   Elijah was in a place of very limited resources.   God places us in a hard place that our lives will start to conform to His way.   It doesn’t necessarily mean that we have done anything wrong it’s just that He is starting to transform us for His greater works.   We learn to need Him and to trust in Him and realize that He will provide if we just stand!
