Definition Essay With technology in today’s day and age, communication and work can be done virtually anywhere in the world. With access to people at all times through the use of cell phones it creates a serious problem. A cell phone addict can be described as a person who is always on the phone, every minute of every day, and who cannot live their life without the use of their cell phone. We’ve all seen the busy business man or woman, who is out to eat with family or on what is supposed to be a “vacation”, yet will drop everything at the sound of their desired ringtone. They must always be up to date with every news story, decision, or shift their company formulates. A cell phone addict in the business world also leads to an extremely stressful lifestyle. When someone becomes so attached to their cell phone it rules their lives. Whether their phone rings at two in the afternoon or two in the morning they stop everything they are doing, (or wake up) and answer their phone. When a business cell phone addict is forced to go without their phone for more than a few hours they will begin to suffer from “withdrawal” like symptoms, as they feel they are being cut off from the world, and everyone they must be in contact with. Another, more common type of cell phone addict, is the every growing teenager population. This is the most highly offensive group of cell phone addiction. They are everywhere, from the kid talking on his or her phone in class via a text message, or getting out of the shower to answer the call from “Jill” about the latest gossip in school, teenagers just cannot put their phones down. Some teenagers become so addicted to cell phones that nothing else matters in their lives. If their phone breaks, or is taken away, a mental breakdown may occur. With such a heavy reliance on when the next message or call will come in, teens can cause many dangerous situations which they are sightless too.
