Cause and Effect of Obesity

Being in a family who is majority obese, it is hard to function. Not knowing the background of this disease makes it hard for me to understand, if or will I have to live like this my whole life. My mom was not obese here whole life it came after pregnancy. After me and my sister carefully researching and reading articles, we determined what some of the causes were and what effect it could have. Obesity is linked to different illnesses and health risk. Obesity is linked to different illnesses and health risks. Obesity means very overweight, and overweight is define as an excess amount of body weight that includes muscle, bone, fat, and water (health craze 2007). The cause of obesity can be associated with genetic factors and illnesses. The effects of obesity can lead to long term health risks and psychological and social issues. Obesity is a multifunctional, chronic disease that can be complex when trying to understand the how and why obesity develops. Obesity is not just a disease it is an epidemic.
There are a few illnesses and medications that lead to the development of weight gain and obesity.   Cushing syndrome plays a major role in obesity.
Cushing syndrome is a hormonal disorder that caused prolonged exposure of the hormone cortisol. Sometimes called “hypercortisolism” it is relatively rare and most commonly affect adults aged 20 to 50. An estimated 10 to 15 of every million people are affected each year, as reported by an online article (Cushing Syndrome 2004)
This syndrome causes rapid weight gain in the upper body. Some symptoms might include fat around the chin, excessive bruising of the skin. Another factor that contributes to this syndrome is medication that includes glucocortoid for illnesses like asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other inflammatory diseases.
