I aspire to pursue a career in healthcare profession. The major drive to attain this goal in life is my father, a successful physician and social worker. Observing my father doing his job and social work, made my desire more strong. During my college days, I used to visit my uncle's clinic who is reputed Endodontist. Watching him doing dental work, I developed liking for dentistry. As time passed, liking became my passion and so I decided to pursue career in dentistry.
After setting my goals, I focused my attention on appearing for pre-dental entrance exams in India and was selected for dental program in Yerela dental school, Mumbai, India. Being the first batch of graduates from college, we enjoyed special privileges such as personal attention of all professors, state of the art dental instruments, best of the teaching standards, dental library. During 3rd and 4th year of dental program, I volunteered in dental camps held by my school. Goal of these camps was to make people aware of oral care, give instructions to maintain oral hygiene and also to give free treatment to patients who cannot afford dental expenses. In my final year I organized a camp under guidance of my professor (Dr. Japtiwale).
I relocated to San Diego to accompany my husband in April 2006. I completed healthcare related courses such as Nutrition, Sociology, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry to get acquainted with US education system. To pursue dentistry further, I started working as a Intern in Dr. Stephen Lockwood's private dental clinic. Dr. Lockwood introduced me to US dental techniques, materials and recent advances in dentistry. He familiarized me with strategies for oral health promotion and disease prevention. Meanwhile, I volunteered as a dental assistant for Sealent and Fluoride varnish clinic organized by dental health initiative institution "Share the care" in San Diego.
