Cafeteria Food

Undercooked hamburger, moldy bread, cold pizza, and brown lettuce sounds nasty, this is what many students have to look forward to when eating in the cafeteria most days. Cafeteria food used to be good, but over the years is has taken a staggering decline to where it is repulsive to even look at. Although some people do consume it, most cannot. Why the change in food quality? I do not know. It is time for another change, a change to food that students, such as myself, can stomach looking at, and is at least worth eating. We, as students, pay big money for the food served in our cafeteria. It is about time we get our money's worth.

Times have changed from the old days of eating healthy to eating at fast food restaurants on the run. This change has caused many students, such as myself, to skip lunch or bring a packed lunch to compensate for the nasty food, which in return causes the school system to lose money. Is this loss of money the cause of why we in turn get nasty food? Probably! But who wants to pay approximately 5.00 for nasty cafeteria food? Most students do not, because there are plenty of other things to spend their money on than nasty cafeteria food. If schools would put in or serve food from everyday restaurants such as Pizza Hut, McDonalds, or Subway, maybe students would actually eat in the cafeteria.

These types of restaurants in our schools would be great, but the government has taken action and set laws about these types of dining in schools. Law requires schools to have a certain amount of nutritional value. (Dennis, 2000) These laws put a strict restriction on the amount of sodium, iron, and other types of chemicals that public schools and universities can intake. Among these restrictions is the amount of fat grams and total cholesterol that a student may be exposed to. However, when you look at these so called health food in the cafeteria, it looks as if someone either just digested it...
