For The Bible Tells Me So - Documentary Critic

Documentary Critic   The documentary “For the Bible Tells Me So” by Daniel Karslake argues that Christians are misinterpreting the bible about homosexuality and that they should change their views and beliefs on the subject of homosexuality so that homosexuals are accepted in their religion. As a Christian I found this documentary to be offensive at times by its generalizations of people with the Christian faith and the way that fundamentalist Christians were represented in this documentary.   I think that this documentary had a strong central idea that was thoroughly developed throughout. I also think that the documentary stayed on topic throughout most of the film. I had just a slight problem with the central idea of this film and though that maybe the idea for this film was a bit to vast for the time period that was allotted. After finishing the film I still had questions about some of the topics that were brought up. Granted these questions were of little importance to the overall idea of the film and I was able to understand the filmmaker’s point of view even with these small gaps that were left unfilled. Another small issue that I had with the idea and focus of this documentary was the fact that it did not have a very strong ending to me, but that easily could have been due to the organization of the film itself.   The organization of this film had me confused at times. It jumped around very quickly between the different families featured in the film and the different topics that the film was covering. At times while watching this documentary, I found myself wondering who was being talked about for a couple of seconds and even up to a minute or two. On the contrary, the good thing about jumping back and forth very quickly was that it kept the film moving fairly rapidly and did not give the viewer a chance to get bored with a certain story or segment.
