Being A Mother

I have chosen being a mother as my topic for this essay because it is something that is very dear to me. I was married young and tried for years to have a child. When my son was born it changed my life completely. There is no other feeling than having someone love you for you and not expect or want anything but your love in return. Children give you a new perspective on everything. To them everything is new and exciting. I don’t know how long I stood holding my son at the light switch while he turned it on and off with pure amazement in his eyes. We grow and become hardened by life and experiences while a child welcomes everything with new eyes and joy of learning. With the good comes the bad, like all things in life. The smiles, coos, cuddling and tenderness is companion to cries, illness and tempers. There is no how to book on being a parent, you can only do your best and learn from your mistakes and hope that your child will turn out ok and be happy. With my son, at the age of two, his father and I went through a divorce; we never argued in front of him and kept the messy divorce stuff away from him. I believe that because of that, my son is very well adjusted to his parents not being together, he doesn’t think it is his fault and knows that mom and dad love him very much. This is jus one example of what to do if you have a child, never fight in front of him or her, they may develop a complex because of it. Cameron, my son, and his father have a good relationship and I never deny him phone privileges or visitation, again, using your child as a pawn for your own agenda is wrong on every level. Cameron’s dad and I have a good friendship now and Cameron has two parents that love him and are there for him at all times for any reason. I have been told by teachers, doctors and strangers that my son is very well behaved and kind. This must be installed at a very young age. The first two to four years of life is when manners and kindness are hardwired into a person....
