What would you do if all of a sudden you were thrown into the role of president without any warning and little preparation? This is exactly what happened to the current Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
The uniqueness of Syria's economy, industry, technology, education, human rights, religious beliefs, international ties as well as the problems it faces allows its future to depend on Bashar Al Assad's ability to lead. Bashar was catapulted into the political world after his older brother Bassel died in a sudden and unexpected car accident back in 1994. Originally Bassel was supposed to take over the role as the next president after their father Hafez Al Assad but that was soon changed after the death of Bassel. Bashar was then next in line to fill his fathers shoes, against his own free will. At the time his brother died, Bashar was studying ophthalmology at the University of Damascus in hopes of becoming an eye doctor and one day opening his own quiet family practice. He was suddenly removed from the University in 1994 and put into the Homs Military Academy where he would begin his training for president and earn the necessary credentials that were needed to obtain this position. At Homs he eventually rose through the ranks to become Colonel in 1994, involving him more in state affairs. which is an organization dedicated to the interest in technology among younger people in Syria.
