Analyzing Online Learning

With the constant evolution in modern technology there are not too many things that one can not do from the comfort of ones home.   Many people have not seen the inside of a mall in ages with all of our favorite stores being available at the click of a mouse and at the tip of our fingers.   Who has time to deal with traffic and the hustle and bustle of the mall, grocery store or even the post office.   Why should advancing ones self through education be any different?   I will begin to evaluate the Five Things We Need to Know About Technological Change, as written by Neil Postman.
In the article written by Neil Postman he states his first idea as being: “Culture always pays a price for technology.”   This is an idea that I strongly agree with.   While taking an online course at home alone we as a culture have begun to miss out on a big part of learning at any level, which is human interaction.   As adults, we are making our own choice to learn from home for many different reasons ranging from convince to wanting a new learning experience.   We choose not to see the harm in not having that social interaction but would we be as eager to allow our children to e-learn in elementary?   Few would think it was alright, probably the same number of people who home school their children but the majority of people know how important it is to interact with peers to better perform in society. It is much easier now to live a true life of a hermit.   Online learning, working at home via the internet, ordering supplies and necessities and having them delivered to your home there is no need to learn to interact in society if you do not have to.
In Postman’s second idea he states that, “there are always winners and loser in technological change.”   Again this is a very true statement.   It has been proven time and time again.   With the invention of computers many people have lost their jobs.   Companies save money when a computer can be put in the place of a...
