Setting: 1965, Singaporean village
Plot:
Introduction: There were two siblings, Chew Kiat Kun and his younger sister Seow Fang. Their mother was pregnant and their dad had to work hard to earn money.
Rising Action: One day, Chew Kiat Kun lost her sister’s shoe because he left it beside the door in a store. His sister only has one pair of shoes and she can’t go to school without one.He doesn’t want to let his parents know cause their family already have many problems . They search a way to resolve the problem. Their father gave them an idea of sharing the shoe. In the morning Seow Fang wears the shoe to school and after her classes are over she would rush to Kun to exchange the shoe but Seow Fang is being laughed at and her teacher scolds her because of her shoes were too big while Kuun is being scolded for being late. Chew Kiat Kun had an idea for asking shoes in his one of his rich teammates in football named Beng Soon but unfortunately they had a fight. Beng Soon is then punished because his homework was not like before and has ugly handwriting and Kun and his were the one answering their assignments before. They then discover that her shoes was with a schoolmate of Seow Fang but they didn’t retrieve it because they saw her father was blind and their situation is more awful. A few days later, Seow Fang saw the girl with a new pair of shoe, she then asks her if where she threw them. Kun and Seow Fang hurried but there was a riot and the shoes were caught in it and it was destroyed.
Climax: Kun heard a competition were the third prize will be a new pair of shoe, buthe said he was sick in the day of the auditions so he beg his teacher and when his teacher asked him to get his medicine he showed that he can do it so he entered the race. The day of the race begins, same day of her mother’s labour. Seow Fang was forced to walk barefooted after her slipper were torn and ran in a field full of broken glass.
