An Analysis On A Raisin In The Sun And To Kill A Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird and A Raisin in the Sun, two very notable books written by two different authors, portray the theme of racism and prejudice exceptionally well. It is because of their experiences dealing with the theme of racism and prejudice and their abilities to be able to convey to their readers their own experiences that hail them as authors who understand everything that encompasses the ideas behind racism and prejudice. Prejudice is an assumption made without examining the facts or simply put, it is a preconceived notion about a person; place or rather anything in general. There are a multitude of different types of prejudices such as social prejudice and racial prejudice, which Harper Lee portrays more so than Lorraine Hansberry. The two authors also depict the theme of racism, which usually involves certain prejudices to come into play. Racism is where one race believes that they are superior to another race and Harper Lee, to be able to depict the theme so well, shows that even though she is white, she comprehends all the notions behind the two themes. She does this more so than Lorraine Hansberry, who having had experienced this first-hand, only depicts the two themes to a certain extent. She depicts it to the extent at which she has experienced it. The way Harper Lee is able to portray how the theme of prejudice and racism affect all of the characters in her book, shows that she is better at depicting the overall picture of the theme, more so than Lorraine Hansberry, who portrays the theme mostly through an African American family in such a way that it shows the biases of her views.
Throughout the novel of To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee, even though she is white, demonstrate the different types of prejudices that affect the characters in her book.
