Air pollution has long been a problem in the industrial nations of the West. It has now become an increasing source of environmental degradation in the developing nations of east. China in particular, because of its rapid push to industrialize, is experiencing dramatic levels of aerosol pollution over a large portion of the country.
China faces the most severe pollution problems of any nation in the world. It’s a result of rapid industrialization and development on a scale that the world has never seen before. China air quality is very poor, 750,000 people die each year because air pollution related diseases and illnesses. The problems they face are truly overwhelming. China has also been experiencing increasingly severe dust storms, which are commonly believed to be caused by over-farming, over-grazing, and increasing use of irrigation. Plumes of dust from north China, mixed with toxic air pollution, now is a major public health concern in China, Korea, and Japan. Some of these aerosols even reach the United States.
How severe is china’s pollutions problem? The Olympics has drawn a worldwide attention to china’s pollution problem and their making an effort to clean the air. It is a great job that there doing it but the real question is whether they will continue to make the efforts after the Olympics. The challenge they face is an enormous challenge, the laws they have are great, but they need to be enforced a lot more effectively.
China has also done some work on the climate change. China’s emission on the greenhouse gases are now the largest in the world, they are admitting more greenhouse gases each year than the United States, Which is a remarkable change in a very significant development. Where not going to solve global warming without a strong effort by china as well as the United States. China is beginning to understand the magnitude of the problem.
