ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN AREA THAT HAS A HIGH POPULATION DENSITY

Thesis statement:
Densely populated areas have more or less equal advantages and Disadvantages.

INTRODUCTION

➢ Population density refers to the number of individuals per square kilometer of land area.
➢ It is an average number which is calculated by dividing the number of people by area.
➢ Population density is usually shown as the number of people per square kilometer
➢ Places which are sparsely populated contain few people. Places which are densely populated contain many people.
➢ There are a range of human and natural factors that affect population density;
➢ High Population density is caused by factors such as low land, areas with rich resources and temperate climates, political stability, good job oppotunites,among others.
➢ Low population density is caused by factors such as highland areas,areas with poor resources e.g infertile soil,extreme climatic conditions,political instability,lack of job opportunities,among others.

High population density has got it’s advantages and disadvantages which include political,economic and social factors.

MERITS

Urban development in high density areas is brought about by urbanization (physical growth of rural or natural land into urban areas as a result of population im-migration to an existing urban area).This leads to increase in population density.This in turn leads to growth of cities which causes industrialization( process of social and economic change whereby a human group is transformed from a pre-industrial society into an industrial one) which shifts the centres of economic activity onto the focus of work, wages and incomes.It simply implies there is large scale production of goods and services by use of machines and improved technology hence increase in total ouput of goods and services,which is an indication of economic growth since there are increased employment opportunities and...
