Introduction
After attending Cross Culture Management (CCM) lessons, I learned more than just theory and found many similarities in my current working environment. In addition, I found it useful to know the related topic because I always have a misconception about CCM. I often have an impression that CCM is a topic which is very theory base. However, in our daily working life, it is imperative to understand the underlying meaning of cross-culture and communication and the strategy behind it. Time files during the four days lesson which was both interesting and informative. I hope in time to come I can put in more practise on what I have learned.
Hofstede Cultural Dimensions
In international business, I noticed it is sometimes amazing how different people in other cultures behave. We tend to have a human instinct that is all the same. However, in reality, they are not. If we go into another country and make decisions based on how we operate in my own country, there is a high chance that most people will make very bad decisions.
Power Distance Index (PDI)
The degree of inequality among people which the population of a country considers as normal.
Individualism (IDV)
The extent to which people feel they are supposed to take care for, or to be cared for by themselves, their families or organizations they belong to.
Masculinity (MAS)
The extent to which a culture is conducive to dominance, assertiveness and acquisition of things, versus a culture which is more conducive to people, feelings and the quality of life.
Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI)
The degree to which people in a country prefer structured over unstructured situations.
Long-Term Orientation (LTO)
Long-term; values oriented towards the future, like saving and persistence. Short-term; values oriented towards the past and the present, like respect for tradition and fulfilling social obligations.
