Active Euthanasia should not be permitted
Active Euthanasia, also known as involuntary Euthanasia is the act of a doctor or one who is caring for a patient to actively induce death upon the individual. As opposed to removing a feeding tube and letting death come naturally from starvation, active euthanasia involves the doctor giving something such as a lethal injection to unnaturally bring death to the individual. Active euthanasia rules out finding a new treatment for the patient, there could be a mistaken diagnosis, lead to fewer medical discoveries or treatments and also something called a Slippery slope which will be discussed. Every human has moral status and is an individual worthy of living whose body can fight for survival when the circumstances demand it. If doctors began to kill off their patients using active euthanasia, people would be too afraid to go to a hospital, this may then lead to decreased level of health for the community which will suffer that way. One cannot decide when another’s life is not worth living, this would likely result in chaos breaking out all around us. If this method of deciding when anothers life should end was widespread, what would become of handicapped people sat for example those in wheelchairs or those who have no or reduced hearing or sight? Around the world doctors and hospitals are beginning to use euthanasia more and more, possibly for not so noble reasons as one might think. Euthanasia is relatively cheap, a lethal injection of deadly chemicals for example costs pennies compared to keeping a sick person alive until death comes naturally.
