This document will outline a proposal of Active Directory implementation for Riordan Manufacturing Inc.
There are several steps in planning and implementation of Active Directory for Riordan.
The 1st step is obviously the planning stage and much attention has to be paid in this stage because of the critical nature in keeping Riordan Manufacturing up and running at all times. The 2nd part is implementation and this involves replacing Riordan’s old NT domain with 2003 servers acting as domain controllers and running Active Directory Services at each of Riordan’s plants. AD will allow the network administrators at each Riordan plant to actively manage network resources which include everything from Servers, Desktops, Laptops, Printers, and Users at their respective locations. AD is designed to function to allow Systems Administrators centralized control over all of the above resources, (depending on their level of access). Active Directory automatically manages the communications between domain controllers to ensure the network remains viable. Users can access all resources on the network for which they are authorized through a single sign-on. Active Directory's improved security and control over the network, most of its features are invisible to users.
AD resources will be allocated in the following manner. Riordan will be structured as a domain forest, where Corporate will be the top level domain and San Jose, Albany, Pontiac and Hangzhou will be sub-domains under Corporate. Corporate will contain the Organizational Units that contain the Global groups, such as Sales & Marketing, Finance & Admin, Operations, R&D and Executive and each employee will be in their respective Global Groups. Structuring AD in such a manner will allow centralized administration of users within a single domain.
