2008-2009 10th grade AP-Prep students:

I have heard from all of your teachers that you are a truly wonderful group of intelligent students. I do not have any doubt that you will prove yourself as sophomores and continue your excellent work ethic.

The required summer reading is for ALL students entering Sophomore AP Prep English in the fall. When you return in September, you will be assessed on all of the material that you are expected to cover over the summer. This work is essential to your progress as an Advanced Placement student. This summer work will gravely effect your English grade, so please take it seriously.   All the work will total 50% of your progress report grade. See breakdown of percentages below. It is important for you to understand that this is a basic minimum expectation for students who are serious about their education and future success. Basically, do the work!

1. You do not have to completely re-read Mythology by Edith Hamilton, but you will be tested on all the major Greek and Roman gods and their most famous stories, so be prepared! You will not be tested on Norse mythology!   (5% of grade)
2. You are also required to read the Kaplan New SAT Score Raising Classic edition of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, which can be found in the test preparation section of a bookstore. While reading, respond to the attached study questions in the TS/CD/CM/CM format that you learned in your freshmen year (5% of grade). If you are not familiar with this format, respond thoughtfully in four sentences, citing an example from the text to back up your opinion. You will also be tested on the entire book the first week of school, so don’t just watch the movie. Read the book.   (10% of grade)
3. Finally, from the attached summer reading list you must select one novel to read. These are all Accelerated Reader Books, and you will be expected to take and pass the AR test for the book when you return. (5% of grade)
4. After you have read the novel,...
