Abortion has always been a major topic for debate in the United States due to all the moral issues that surround it. Abortion has been in debate since the 1800’s and will always be in debate. No matter what decisions are made regarding this topic, someone will always contest the decision.
There are many ways in determining whether an abortion would be morally correct. The many factors in determining whether to have an abortion, such as the circumstances surrounding the conception of the baby, any impending medical conditions affecting the mother or baby, religious factors, and the child’s future environment. Although this writer is mainly against abortion, there are many pros and cons.
Other options for a woman with an unwanted pregnancy, other than abortion, are available. The woman could go ahead with the birth of her baby. During the several months before the birth, the woman could change her mind and decide to keep the baby. She may be extremely glad that she did decide to keep the baby. However the woman may also decide by the end of her pregnancy that she definitely does not want to raise the baby herself. Her option at that point would be to give the baby up for adoption.
There are many couples in this world that would love to adopt a baby. However, there are many more couples wanting a baby than there are available babies. This woman could help make an unlucky couple extremely happy. The woman could also choose to have an open adoption in which she could be involved in the baby’s future.
If the woman is opting to have an abortion due to the impending medical condition(s) of her child, she could wait until the baby is born to see what could medically be done for the baby. If the condition, such as spina bifida, is caught by ultrasound early enough, doctors may go ahead and perform surgery while the baby is still in the mother’s womb. These surgeries have...
