To effectively deliver and promote inclusion, equality and diversity within a learning environment a teacher must be aware, if not fully aware, must have taken steps to identify any barriers or boundaries that may affect their students participation in learning. Financial pressures, learning difficulties, travel issues and cultural or peer pressures to name a few are some of the barriers and boundaries that form the basis of a student’s initial feeling of discontent within the learning environment, and as a consequence fail to meet their true potential. Therefore, the identification and constant monitoring throughout the course of these boundaries is essential, not only in the relationship between the student and the teacher and between the student and their peers; but such understanding and cooperation results in the individual feeling reassured and valued, thereby promoting equality and encourages an inclusive and diverse environment.
More often than not it’s not the quality or quantity of or subject matter that aids in a students effective development - but the teachers ability to create an valued learning environment, therefore the teacher should ensure that the students first contact with the course i.e. Brochures, posters, prospectus and the initial assessment should highlight that the course is open to all regardless of race, religion, age, disability, gender or special needs. Making sure also on a continuous basis, via regular discussions, assessments and individual learning plans that no student is disadvantaged or subjected to unfair discrimination on any grounds in relation to accessing appropriate learning methods or access to learning materials and resources.
